The Laptop DVD Burner

This behavior started somewhere after I installed Pinnacle Media Suite and Roxio media creator. I guess I could try uninstalling them but anyone know why this happens?

Whenever I start my laptop up the cd/dvd drive door pops out automatically and when I close’s it,in a few second’s it pops open again and it wont read disc’s.
well right click on ur cd/dvd rom icon and select properties there will be a option like action and there u can set option take no action on all kinds of media disks

I have an old windows 98 computer that has some valuable but large files that I need to transfer to my new windows vista laptop. The old computer has a floppy a cd drive (reader not burner) and all kinds of non-usb ports in the back that I can’t identify, but I know ones for mouse, and printer, and internet. Anybody got any ideas?
if it has usb; flat, rectangular port, thats the easiest option. other than that, connect a lan cable to it and network the two machines. If you want really simple, just upload the files to an online fileserver (plenty of free ones on the web) then download them when the new machine’s connected to the internet.

I brought a DELL LATITUTE XPI P1 133MHZ 8MB RAM 810MB HDD LAPTOP PC ( Don’t know what that other stuff after P1 means) I was wondering is it humanly possible to install an internal drive in it and a usb hub to it. do you think i have enough space to do so. please keep answers simple because lets’ face it i am not a computer genuis that knows all of the computer lingo. thanks for the help
can you provide maybe a little more info? if this is a latitude laptop. when you open the cover right above the keybord to the left you should see a model number something that starts with a D maybe. installing a combo drive on most laptops are very easy.. just depends on the space availiable..

I tried burning a CD-RW but the process failed and thereafter my combo drive doesn't read any type of CD's, but plays DVD discs.

My DVD drive keeps popping open whenever I type or touch the laptop. This is getting to be very annoying. Don't want to be cheesy but close to duct taping it shut. I've run countless scans and have not detected any virus. If it helps, the drive is a Philips DVD Burner and the laptop is a Gateway MX6920.

the drives latch is loose. its so loose that slight movement will elease it. have it checked by the pros.
